Pacentro is one of Italy’s finest preserved medieval villages. It was recently nominated as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, (dei Borghi più belli d' Italia). Untouched by tourism, it plays host to numerous traditional festivals that are disappearing in Italy’s tourism hubs. It is also a vibrant village. Within a few minutes’ walk from the front door can be found a variety of shops, bars and restaurants (including one of Italy’s most famous!). Surrounded by the Apennine Mountains and in the heart of the Majella National Park (pronounced and sometimes spelt "Maiella"), an abundance of holiday activities will suit all ages and preferences. In the immediate vicinity there are plenty of beautiful walks, mountain bike routes, horse riding, spectacular picnic spots, and nature watching opportunities. The Majella National Park is home to wolves, brown bears and eagles. In winter,
outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy local downhill and cross country skiing. Pacentro is also a fantastic center for sight seeing; from beautiful mediaeval villages to archaeological sights and atmospheric hermitages. Rome and Naples are only a train ride away from the local station in Sulmona. When tired of all these activities, chill on the terrace or the Adriatic beaches.
